You might thing that smartphones are good devices, but no, in reality,
they are probably one of worst consumer appliances ever made. It tries
to do everything - and does it badly, ensuring that even the Internet
has been getting worse because of mobile technology. Here's why:

1) Smartphones force you to unnatural positions in order to use them.
You can't just sit straight, and mouse & type with a smartphone,
ensuring your comfort when using your computer. You must look down and
tire your hands in order to use it.

2) Typing on a small touch-screen thumb board is much less convenient
and slower compared to touch typing on a desktop computer. You can't use
all your 8 fingers, you are limited to the use of your two thumbs. And
if that's not enough, overuse of thumbs can lead on tendonitis. That's
the *real* reason why emojis are so popular: it's hard to type on a
touch screen, and voice recognition stinks. No handwriting recognition
as well, as they don't have a stylus anymore.

3) Smartphones have got much smaller screens, therefore they are worse
for eyes than your desktop or laptop, because you have to hold it
relatively close to your eyes. Sure, they are phablets available, but
they are more addictive and lead to dried eyes faster than smaller screens.

4) It's much more convenient to use apps instead of a web browser on a
smartphone, therefore killing the real Intenet. Instead of just making a
good website, they must also program an good app for mobile devices as
well. That's why forums and blogs have died. I used to write a blog
since early 1998, stopped in 2013...

5) The resolution of a touch screen is limited by your finger/thumb
size, therefore reducing the capacity to do creative work on the device.
My drawings with a finger on touch screen are *always* shit. Sure, for
writing you might add a physical thumb keyboard, but again, you still
work it with thumbs, not all your 8 fingers.

6) While smartphones might be easier-to-learn than PCs, they are not
necessarily easier-to-use. Not by a long shot. You can't operate them as
fast as real computer, you can't use keyboard shortcuts on them, you
have to use a touch screen.

7) Mobile software has a lot of artifical limitations compared to a PC
one. No real window multi-tasking, no good photo, image and video editors.

8) Even selecting some text is a pain on touch screen, let alone copy
and paste.

9) A *Forgotten* Bonus: Smartphones allow *children* to access the
Internet from *anywhere*. This can leave them vunerable to *online
predators*. (Parents may find it difficult to check what their children
are up to online). I don't know how _stupid_ you must be to not
understand this. If you buy a smartphone. Let them use a PC, much easier
to use and check what their children are up to online.

10) Second Bonus: your child(ren) might find it hard to live without a
smartphone. Show them this article ASAYC:
https://gizmodo.com/yes-you-can-live-without-your-goddamn-smartphone-5936979
this will solve this problem.

In other words, *don't* be a client for smartphone companies if you
value freedom! Owning one is a choice.

Some fun: The fact that Google autocompletes prove that most children
really think that they can't live without their smartphone, while in
reality they could.

I've never experienced this. In fact, ergonomically, looking down
is better.

I don't use my thumbs at all for typing on a smart phone. I type
with my right index finger. I've never felt it inconvenient to do so.
But that's me.

I must have missed out on styluses being included and used with
smart phones. I did hold onto my Motorola Razr for a very long time,
so this doesn't mean much.

I hold my phone at roughly the same distance as I do a book. I
would imagine this is the norm.

I recall a similar claim being made of the world wide web. People
claimed it would kill the "real" Internet. No more FTP, Archie,
telnet, etc.
The Internet, like most things, changes over time.

There is no requirement that any company make an app. It may be a
wise business move to have one, but no company is forced to do so.

That was your choice.

Do you use your finger to draw on a computer?
If actual drawing is done with a computer, a graphics tablet/pad
will be far better.

While I am much faster on a traditional keyboard, my 13yo can
type amazingly fast on her iPhone.

one. No real window multi-tasking, no good photo, image and video editors.
I can have multiple windows open on my phone. Multi-tasking is
equally easy on a phone.
I've never tried to edit photos or video on a phone. However,
people can and do use iMovie (I think that's what it's called) to make
acceptable videos. No, it's not as good as Sony Vegas, but it's not
meant to be.

I've never had a problem with it.

Everything my children who have iPhones do is logged and
available for me, my wife, or both, to review. It is very easy to
check what children are up to, if the parents are willing to take the
time to check.

When disciplinary measures have warranted the loss of phone
privileges, each child has survived. Contacting friends becomes
somewhat more difficult (we don't have a land line anymore), but
somehow they always managed to make it.

Of course it's a choice. For thousands upon thousands of years,
humans did very well without any phone of any sort.

Can you cite the study that shows most children really think they
can't live without their smart phone due to Google's auto complete?
Considering the number who use an iPhone, I question the validity of
your claim. But I will give an honest review of the cite(s) you offer.
